Job Description

The Business Development Manager will be responsible for driving sales growth, market penetration, and new business acquisition in the HI&I (Household, Industrial, and Institutional) market. This individual will play a key role in identifying, developing, and executing opportunities to expand Ascent’s footprint, deliver value-driven solutions, and achieve revenue and profit targets. Success in this role requires a strategic mindset, strong execution skills, and the ability to build and maintain impactful customer relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pipeline Development:

Proactively identify, qualify, and develop a robust pipeline of prospective customers, leveraging market research, industry networking, and other channels. Focus on uncovering high-value opportunities in the HI&I and adjacent market segments.

  • Sales Growth & Execution:

Drive revenue growth by promoting Ascent’s products and capabilities through impactful presentations, tailored proposals, and strategic negotiations. Take full ownership of the sales process to close deals, secure new business, and exceed established sales targets.

  • Strategic Customer Planning:

Develop and execute detailed account strategies for key customers, prioritizing opportunities for growth and aligning Ascent’s resources to customer needs. Identify and implement tactics to maximize share of wallet and ensure long-term profitability.

  • Customer Relationship Management:

Build and nurture deep, collaborative relationships with customers, ensuring loyalty and repeat business. Position Ascent as a trusted partner by providing expert guidance and solutions to address their most complex challenges.

  • Market Expertise:

Stay ahead of market trends, competitive activity, and customer needs to identify new opportunities and inform business strategies. Leverage insights to develop value propositions that resonate with target customers.

  • Collaboration:

Partner with internal teams, including marketing, product development, and supply chain, to ensure seamless delivery of customer solutions and maintain high levels of satisfaction. Actively contribute to cross-functional initiatives aimed at driving growth.

  • Performance Reporting & Accountability:

Maintain detailed records of sales activities and commercial pipeline progress. Regularly report to senior leadership on achievements, customer insights, and key performance metrics. Analyze sales outcomes and refine strategies to continually improve results.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Business Management, Marketing, Chemistry, or Engineering.
  • Experience in sales for additional markets such as CASE (Coatings, Adhesives, Sealants, Elastomers), Personal Care, or Textiles.
  • Strong knowledge of applications and customer requirements within the HI&I market.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Marketing, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in sales, marketing, or a related role, with demonstrated success in specialty chemical sales.
  • Expertise in surfactants, defoamers, and the HI&I market.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and closing skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts clearly and persuasively.
  • Proven ability to analyze sales data and market trends to drive informed decision-making and strategy development.
  • Proficiency with CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce) and other sales technologies.
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented, with a proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets.
