About this role:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Underwriting Associate to support our Commercial Insurance underwriting team. The successful candidate will assist in the evaluation and processing of commercial earthquake insurance applications, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company guidelines and industry regulations. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Review commercial insurance applications and supporting documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • Assist underwriters in assessing risk factors and determining appropriate coverage levels for commercial properties.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate complex data and make informed decisions.
  • Conduct preliminary analysis of property data, including location, construction type, occupancy, and risk mitigation measures.
  • Prepare quotes, binders, endorsements, and other policy documents accurately and efficiently.
  • Communicate with brokers, agents, and clients to obtain additional information or clarification on submitted applications.
  • Assist in managing the underwriting workflow, including tracking submissions, endorsements, renewals, and cancellations.
  • Maintain underwriting files and electronic records in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as claims and compliance, to ensure seamless processing and servicing of policies.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks related to commercial earthquake insurance.
  • Provide administrative support to the underwriting team, including scheduling meetings, organizing documents, and performing data entry tasks as needed.

Experience:

  • Prior experience in underwriting, insurance, or risk management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and experience with underwriting software or databases is preferred.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to accuracy and quality in work output.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Knowledge of commercial property insurance principles, including policy forms, coverage options, and rating methodologies, is a plus.
  • Willingness to pursue professional development opportunities and obtain relevant insurance certifications/licenses as required.

Salary: $55,000-$70,000 depending on experience, plus bonus

Job Type: Full-time

Locations: San Diego, CA and Denver, CO (Hybrid 3-days in the office)
