The Assistant Controller will play a pivotal role in overseeing the financial integrity and compliance of global operations, with a focus on tax filings, intercompany transactions, and policy development. This role will ensure that the organization adheres to tax laws, maintains accurate intercompany accounting, and enforces consistent accounting policies across all global entities. The individual will work closely with the Corporate Controller, finance teams, and other internal stakeholders to support the global finance function and ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
US Tax Filing and Compliance:
- Lead and oversee the preparation and filing of global tax returns, including corporate income tax, VAT/GST, and other relevant taxes in multiple jurisdictions.
- Work with external tax advisors to ensure the organization is compliant with state and federal tax regulations.
- Manage the preparation and submission of quarterly and annual tax provisions in line with both tax laws.
- Stay up to date with changes in international tax laws, including transfer pricing, base erosion and profit shifting (BEPS) initiatives, and other global tax reforms.
- Support the tax compliance process, ensuring tax positions are accurately reflected in consolidated financial statements and disclosures.
Intercompany Transactions and Compliance:
- Oversee intercompany accounting and ensure accurate and timely reconciliation of intercompany balances across all global entities.
- Develop, monitor, and enforce intercompany transaction policies to ensure proper transfer pricing documentation and compliance with tax regulations.
- Manage and ensure compliance with intercompany agreements, ensuring the correct allocation of costs and revenues between subsidiaries.
- Collaborate with global business units to ensure that intercompany transactions are executed according to established procedures and accurately recorded.
- Lead the implementation of best practices for managing and reporting intercompany transactions, ensuring consistency across different regions and entities.
Global Accounting Policy Development and Enforcement:
- Contribute to the creation, documentation, and enforcement of global accounting policies and procedures to ensure consistency, compliance, and best practices across all jurisdictions.
- Ensure alignment of local accounting policies with international financial reporting standards (e.g., US GAAP, IFRS), while considering specific country-level regulations.
- Regularly review and update accounting policies to reflect changes in global financial regulations, tax laws, and business operations.
- Collaborate with the control teams to assess and improve internal controls related to tax, intercompany accounting, and policy enforcement.
- Develop and conduct training programs for global finance teams on accounting policies, tax compliance, and intercompany transaction procedures.
Global Financial Reporting and Analysis:
- Assist in the preparation of consolidated financial statements, ensuring all intercompany transactions and tax-related adjustments are properly reflected.
- Support the preparation of quarterly and annual financial reports, ensuring compliance with US GAAP or IFRS, where applicable.
- Work closely with the financial reporting team to ensure accurate accounting for tax provisions, intercompany eliminations, and related financial adjustments.
- Assist in analyzing the impact of global tax changes and intercompany transaction structures on the company’s consolidated financial position.
Audit Coordination and Regulatory Compliance:
- Support the Statutory Controller with the global audit process by providing accurate and timely information related to tax filings, intercompany transactions, and accounting policies.
- Coordinate with external auditors for the US operations to ensure tax and financial reporting compliance and resolve any related audit issues.
- Ensure timely and accurate responses to regulatory authorities' requests for information related to tax filings and accounting practices.
Ad-hoc Projects and Process Improvement:
- Lead or participate in special projects aimed at improving tax compliance, intercompany transaction processes, and financial reporting efficiency.
- Implement process improvements that streamline tax filing and reporting, intercompany reconciliation, and policy enforcement across global entities.
- Contribute to system implementations or upgrades related to corporate financial systems (e.g., ERP, tax software).
Qualifications
Education :
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- CPA or equivalent certification required.
Experience :
- 6+ years of experience in accounting or finance, with a focus on tax filing and managing intercompany transactions.
- Experience in managing complex intercompany accounting and reconciliations across multiple entities is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of tax laws and regulations, including experience in tax filing and compliance.
- Experience with financial statement preparation, variance analysis, and monthly/quarterly close processes.
- Prior experience with SAP and advanced Excel skills required.
Skills :
- Deep understanding of GAAP and tax regulations, including knowledge of tax provision processes and intercompany transaction rules.
- Ability to analyze and reconcile complex intercompany transactions and accounts.
- Strong proficiency with accounting software and Excel for financial modeling and reporting.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders, including auditors and tax advisors.
